Former San Francisco Giant and current all-time home run leader Barry Bonds has been indicted by a federal grand jury in San Francisco on charges of purgury and obstruction of justice.
The most damaging part of the indictment states “During the criminal investigation, evidence was obtained including positive tests for the presence of anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing substances for Bonds…”
This comes at the conclusion of a four-year investigation by federal authorities into the the Bay Area Lab Cooperative (BALCO) which has pinned down other professional athletes like sprinters Marion Jones and Tim Montgomery.
After this, Bonds’ playing career could very well be over. He’ll have a hard time finding a team who will want to sign a 44-year old outfielder with bad knees and a federal indictment hanging over his head, regardless of how many homers he has hit over the years.
