This fall, the fashion scene is looking to be defined by both familiar staples and bold new trends. Whether you’re looking to revamp your closet completely or just a few new staple pieces, this 2025 fall fashion guide has styles for everyone.
Faux Fur
Starting off with a daring new style that’s making a big comeback this fall — faux fur. This piece can elevate casual basics to a chic, vintage look. Perfect for the chilly autumn weather, fur makes wearing a coat look purposeful rather than simply necessary.
Formal shoes
While it’s not always practical to wear a more formal shoe, especially to class or other daily activities, they can serve as an effective accessory when the occasion is right. This fall, more formal footwear is trending, such as the kitten heel, loafer and ballet flat. Black kitten heels can add a dash of elegance to an outfit you’re looking to dress up, while a loafer can contribute chicness to an everyday outfit, such as your favorite fall sweater and jeans. Add a pop of color to a neutral look with a red or burgundy ballet flat. Colorful shoes are often overlooked, but this fall, lean into viewing shoes as an important accessory.
Animal print
Animal print is back and bigger than ever this fall, present everywhere from bags and pants to skirts and tops. Though animal print tends to trend for months and disappear again, it’s worth finding at least one versatile piece to add to your wardrobe. This trend can be executed with pieces as subtle as a leopard print belt, or a top paired with a mini skirt and leather jacket. Look at this fall style as a way to be shamelessly trendy and unleash your fun side.
Boho
Another trend returning this fall is the boho style, with flowy lace tops and floral patterns taking the spotlight. This loose, casual style can be worn for any occasion and channels a carefree, airy 70’s vibe.
Studded clothes
This fall, everyone’s looking to add a little more shine to their wardrobe. The rise of studded clothing is the 2025 version of Justice sequined clothing, in my opinion. Try studded jeans for an evening dinner, a studded tank top for going out or a studded headband for your morning coffee run. Who says shine has to be limited to the nighttime?
Layering pieces
A classic way to freshen up your wardrobe is to layer unexpected pieces of clothing together for a visually appealing, and often very comfortable, look. A tight long-sleeve shirt under an oversized t-shirt or flowy tank top is a fall classic and the perfect way to get a few more wears out of your summer clothing. Also, layering tank tops under sheer long-sleeved shirts is a sure way to elevate your going-out wardrobe. When in doubt, throw a denim or corduroy jacket over a hoodie or sweater on your walk to class to stay warm and stylish.
Belts
One of the most fun ways to spice up your go-to pair of jeans or going out mini skirt is to add on a bold belt. Almost any outfit can benefit from a good belt, and bonus points if you can match the hardware on the belt to your jewelry. From intricate chain belts to chunky statement belts, this accessory is sure to pop up more this fall in lecture halls and bars alike.
Polka dots
Already making a massive comeback earlier this year, the polka dot trend is not slowing down anytime soon. Polka dots are a whimsical, yet mature, pattern that adds personality to a simple silhouette or tote bag.
Upcycled gameday looks
Your personal style doesn’t have to stop at the gates of Camp Randall. Use this football season as an opportunity to level up your Wisconsin merch. Even better than buying new clothes is upcycling the Wisconsin merch, or other clothes, you already have in your closet.
Try adding Wisconsin patches to the back pockets of an old pair of jeans or onto the back of a denim jacket. As the cooler weather begins to roll into Madison, a denim jacket with Wisconsin patches is the perfect layering choice to stay warm and full of school spirit on gamedays. Unique, vintage patches can be found on websites like eBay or Etsy.
Looking for a use for an old L&S or free bookstore t-shirt? Grab a pair of scissors and transform these t-shirts into an off-the-shoulder top, tube top or halter top with a few simple cuts and ties.
Got a basic white t-shirt and some old fabric scraps lying around? Maybe they’re even fabric scraps from your old L&S or free bookstore t-shirt. Get creative with this DIY by cutting out letters from the fabric to sew onto your white t-shirt. Spell out words and phrases like “Wisco,” “Bucky’s Favorite,” “Jump Around,” etc. to show off your Badger pride.
This fall, step out of your comfort zone and make a new fashion move. Who knows, you might just step into your new everyday style.
