To the dismay of hipsters across the University of Wisconsin campus, American Apparel on State Street will shut its doors at the end of January.
According to the Milwaukee Business Journal, the company, famous for its sweatshop-free clothing and eccentric former CEO, has asked a bankruptcy court to close eight under-performing stores, including the State Street location.
“The company remains focused on pursuing the completion of its financial restructuring following its planned bankruptcy court hearing at the end of this month,” American Apparel spokesperson Arielle Patrick said.
Assistant Store Manager Isaak Mertz said the store’s last day of operation will be Jan. 26, but declined further comment.
