Grey’s Anatomy Recap “Something’s Gotta Give”

At the conclusion of
last week’s episode, Dr. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) had quit her job as a
resident at Seattle Grace Mercy West hospital, leaving her future in question.
Unfortunately, tonight’s episode did not provide much of an explanation but
nevertheless, there was debate over how Cristina’s situation should be
approached.

The hospital received
a V.I.P patient this week: a political figure from the middle east, who had to
be surgically operated on in secret. Although his life was saved during
surgery, his conditions draw Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver), Dr. Owen Hunt,
(Kevin McKidd), Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), and Dr. Meredith Grey
(Ellen Pompeo) into the operation room. While Cristina’s teacher, husband, and
best friend believe they should intervene on Cristina’s behalf, Derek believes
she should be left alone. Before any of them can reach her, at the end of the
episode, Derek visits to Cristina and the two of them conclude the episode on
the rooftop talking about housing designs, so she can avoid lectures about
returning to the hospital.

Dr. Callie Torres
(Sara Ramirez) is recovering from the end of her relationship with Dr. Arizona
Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) and is enlisted to help Cristina throughout the day.
When Cristina decides to throw a house-warming party, she completes most of the
preparation to keep her mind off Arizona. She also realizes she needs to move
into a new apartment and makes plans with Dr. Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) to move in
with him.

Dr. Miranda Bailey
(Chandra Wilson) and Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) team up and when Bailey
is called into surgery, Jackson
must monitor a post-surgical patient. However, when the patient goes into delirious
shock, Jackson takes her to an operation room to open her up but fails to
manage to save her and continues to grow frustrated that he is not having
positive experiences with patients.

Meanwhile, Dr. Alex
Karev (Justin Chambers) and Dr. April Kepner (Sarah Drew) are assigned to work
with Dr. Phil Stark (Peter MacNicol), the new pediatrics attending. They
operate on a baby who needs a liver transplant but can only receive a liver
from an adult donor, and the organ is too large for the baby’s body. So, Karev
develops a plan to insert a ping pong ball into the body to allow part of the
organ to grow around, but when he recommends the idea, Stark turns it down but
later suggests it to Chief Webber (James Pickens Jr.) so as to earn credit for
the idea. When Kepner notices his actions, she compliments Karev and the two
begin to have sex only for her to ask him to slow down which causes him to grow
frustrated and storm out on her.

When Kepner arrives
at Cristina’s party, she begins to cry and Jackson begins to console her for
comfort. When Karev arrives, out of frustration for Kepner, Jackson starts a
fight. After the fight is broken up, Meredith talks to Karev about his actions,
and he reveals that he is under extreme pressure with problems happening with his
family at home.

Although there may
still be issues with Cristina at the current moment, now we finally have a
chance to see how Karev is feeling. Let’s not forget that Karev went through
extreme emotional trauma last year. He finally opened up his heart, only to
have his wife leave him, and he was also one of the victims of the shooting. I
mean, he must have a lot on his mind too. I think they should continue to keep
shifting some of the attention around and let us see more of the other
characters.
