This week’s episode
was again heavily focused on Dr. Cristina Yang’s (Sandra Oh) recovery from the
terror of the shootings. Unable to sleep by herself when Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin
McKidd) is not home, she sleeps peacefully in Meredith’s bed where she feels
more comfortable and safe. Her recovery is a topic of discussion among all the
doctors of Seattle Grace in terms of how to help her best.
Meanwhile,
Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) receives an unexpected visit from his
sister Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) which he is not pleased with and is all but
welcoming to her, which Meredith finds extremely puzzling. Chief of Surgery Dr.
Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) begins to notice a pattern with Dr. Alex
Karev (Justin Chambers). He refuses to take the elevator, insisting to walk the
stairs every time a patient has to be transported to a floor. Once Dr. Webber
connects that he won’t take the elevator after laying in a puddle of his own blood,
Dr Webber rides in the elevator with him until he is no longer scared.
Dr.
Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), Dr. Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh), and Dr. Jackson
Avery (Jesse Williams) treat a patient with HPV, resulting in extreme warts
over his face, and hands practically made of tree bark. The patient’s wife
forcefully has him undergo the surgery only to leave him at the end of the
episode because he will never look presentable to society.
Dr.
Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Dr. April Kepner (Sarah Drew) treat a patient
who has a blockage in her lung and after being questioned about her sexual
activity, is insistent on being a virgin, waiting until her wedding in a few
weeks. When Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) is operating, they realize the mass is
a condom, which almost causes a break-up between the engaged couple. However,
the patient explains she accidentally inhaled a condom at her bachelorette
party, when learning sex techniques. This patient’s story causes many of the
residents to discuss their first sexual experience, eventually learning that
April, at the age of 28, is still a virgin, which many of the residents find
surprising.
To
help Cristina regain control of her medical profession, Derek patiently helps
her re-visit the surgery she performed on him after he had been shot. Although
at first he pushes her a little too hard, he eventually relaxes and helps
Cristina regain her stride back into surgery.
Dr.
Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) officially moves in with Dr. Callie Torres
(Sara Ramirez), and Cristina and Owen realize it time for them to get a place
of their own. After learning from April that Dr. Mark Sloan (Eric Dance) loves
her, Lexie goes to repair their damaged relationship, only to find him making
out with Derek’s sister in the hallway outside of his apartment.
Although
there are currently many relationships going on in the show, the relationship
between Derek and his sister Amelia is given a considerable amount of
attention. After Derek lost his trust in her due to events in the past, they
both work to amend their frustrations with each other.
After
this episode, it seems that all of the stress and terrors doctors were feeling
as a result of last season’s shootings have be cleared. The characters and the
show have put a chapter of events behind them and are ready to move on.
