A walk past Gordon Dining and Event Center Saturday turned heads as University of Wisconsin students jolted across the lawn throwing splashes of color at each other. The India Student Association and the Madison Hindu Student Association hosted Holi, a Hindu spring festival of color, for UW students.
Rishav Banerjee, an ISA member, said the event incorporates religious and cultural aspects of South Asian culture. Before the event started, ISA and MHSA told students about Holi and its history.
More than 550 pounds of color made of dyed corn starch were provided, as well as 300 squirt guns.
“We’re really happy that UW-Madison is hosting an event like this to celebrate cultural differences,” Steven Xiong, a participant, said.
