Anthrax scares in state Capitol

With more anthrax cases developing daily, anthrax scares are continuing to sweep the country and state.

Thursday, the Madison Fire Department Hazardous Incident Team responded to the state Capitol where a suspicious substance was found in a bathroom. A paper towel dispenser was covered with a thin layer of brown dust. The bathroom was roped off and the substance was sent to the State Laboratory of Hygiene for testing. Later on in the day, four other scares were reported. The areas around the reported suspicious substances were isolated.

The Capitol Police were unable to verify the results of the tests; however, they said all people exposed to the substances were released and the Madison Fire Department and Hazmat team left the scene.

Over 40 suspicious substances have been sent to the lab for testing, according to the Madison Department of Public Health. So far, none of these substances contained any hazardous materials.
