As the April 7 spring elections in Wisconsin approach, students can find numerous voting resources before casting their ballots, according to BadgersVote.
Eligible University of Wisconsin students can register to vote in the state for the spring elections with their school address or permanent address, including elsewhere in Wisconsin or another state, according to BadgersVote.
To be eligible to vote in Wisconsin, you must be a U.S. citizen, be 18 years of age by the day of the election, have resided in Wisconsin for the past 28 consecutive days before election day and not currently serving a felony sentence — which includes probation, according to BadgersVote.
BadgersVote, in collaboration with the City Clerk’s Office, hosts numerous different voter registration events on campus, which can be found through UW’s events calendar.
On election day, before casting a ballot, voters must have documentation proving their identity, according to BadgersVote. UW students particularly can use a campus-issued voter ID card. Students can find their voter ID card under the voting module in their MyUW homepage. This voter ID can be printed or students can pick up a plastic copy of their ID by visiting the Wiscard office at Union South, according to BadgersVote.
In Wisconsin, voters can register on election day at their polling location, open from 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. on election day, according to My Vote Wisconsin. Polling locations for voters can be found by visiting this website.
From March 24 to April 3, students can vote early with same day registration, according to BadgersVote.
Included in the ballot this spring is an open Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice seat, with the retirement of conservative Justice Rebecca Bradley, according to Wisconsin Watch. The liberal candidate is Wisconsin Court of Appeals Judge Chris Taylor and the conservative candidate is Wisconsin Court of Appeals Judge Maria Lazar.
