The University of Wisconsin announced Mar. 4 that it created a web page with expanded information and guidance should students or employees encounter someone representing a federal agency in campus facilities or workspaces, according to UW News.
According to UW, it strives to create an environment that protects the privacy and rights of students, faculty and staff under the law.
The web page includes information in six languages available for download.
The page serves to include an expanded version of previous immigration guidance, provided in January of 2026, according to UW’s Guidance on Federal Immigration Activity document. For additional help, the January 2026 version of the Guidance on Federal Immigration Activity includes detailed information regarding federal officers entering public workspaces.
UW provides updated immigration guidance and the site is part of the ongoing commitment to keeping the campus community as informed as possible, according to UW News.
The site answers questions regarding public safety, UW Police Department involvement, federal enforcement in campus spaces, public vs. non-public areas and additional privacy information.
The site includes contact information for campus resources to help students who may risk an encounter by a federal officer regarding their status, UW News stated.
UWPD stated in the new immigration guidance that it is a resource to help students. UWPD is committed to providing exceptional service to all members of our community, regardless of immigration status, according to UWPD.
UWPD will not participate in immigration enforcement actions conducted by federal bodies and both UW and UWPD said they will not disclose the immigration status of its students, faculty or staff unless required by law.
An individual’s immigration status does not affect their ability to file a police report with the department, according to UWPD.
