The University of Wisconsin Police Department arrested an individual at 1:55 p.m. Tuesday near East Campus Mall after receiving a report that the suspect made threats to another person near a bus stop.
The suspect and the other individual were riding the bus and departed at the same stop. The two got into a verbal argument during which the suspect presented a firearm and made threats to the victim, according to UWPD’s incident report.
The suspect had left the firearm in a nearby trash bin and the UWPD recovered it upon arrival at the scene.
The suspect was booked into the Dane County Jail with tentative charges of disorderly conduct while armed, carrying a concealed weapon and resisting or obstructing an officer. The suspect has no known connection to UW.
According to the incident report, UWPD did not issue a WiscAlert to students, despite the incident occurring on campus, because the situation was resolved quickly by officers.
