Wisconsin congressman and gubernatorial candidate Tom Tiffany released a statement Sunday condemning democratic gubernatorial candidates following multiple break-ins throughout Wisconsin, according to a Wispolitics press release.
Mequon police confirmed that there have been several burglaries and break-ins in the area, and believe the crimes are connected to a South American crime group, according to WISN.
The burglaries are all similar in nature and have been connected to similar break-ins in Florida, said Mequon police chief John Hoell. According to Tiffany’s statement, the Mequon Police Department confirmed an ‘illegal alien crime ring.’ Police have no evidence of the criminals being illegal aliens, according to Hoell.
“It’s not possible for one or two people to be doing this,” Hoell said. “This is a calculated, trained measure of what’s taking place, so this is a larger group with connections to South America, being legal or not, I have no idea.”
The cases are unusual in their similarity because all the break-ins take place at dead ends or cul-de-sacs with wooded backyard entries, Hoell said.
The burglars often target handbags, high-end jewelry and currency, leaving behind other valuables, Hoell said.
“This organization, to our investigation, we believe is based or centralized out of South America, which is taking place here, and it is not uncommon for larger organizations to be based out of some other country,” Hoell said.
Tiffany’s statement said as governor, he will work with law enforcement to secure borders and make Wisconsin safe.
“This is what Democrats imported into our country, and now not a single Democrat running for governor will condemn it or support removing these criminals from our communities,” Tiffany said in the statement.
State Representative and gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong responded to Tiffany’s press release in a post on X, saying that everyone deserves to feel safe in their homes and immigrants commit crime at lower rates than natural born citizens.
“Donald Trump is a rapist who pardons criminals. Thoughts? Or only care about crime when it spreads hate and is convenient for you?” Hong said in the post.
Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez, Sen. Kelda Roys, D-Madison did not response to requests for comment.
