After ending the season with a disappointing loss in the first round of the NCAA tournament, UW women’s basketball head coach Jane Albright will return for her ninth season, according to UW and college basketball sources.
While the details of her contract extension have not been revealed, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported over the weekend that Albright confirmed she was in fact offered the opportunity to remain at Wisconsin.
However, Cheryl Marra, an associate athletic director at UW, is said to be still evaluating Albright’s coaching performance. Her decision isn’t expected until May 10, when the UW athletic board is scheduled to vote on Albright’s status.
After posting another disappointing season, it was unknown whether or not Albright would be asked to return to UW for another season.
Albright’s Badgerball squad started out the season strongly, working its way up to No. 5 by the start of Big Ten play. However, the team’s winning ways faltered, and the team struggled throughout the second half of the season, compiling a .613 winning percentage.
