Students packed into the Student Activity Center caucus room waiting in anticipation for the names of the 2016 Associated Students of Madison preliminary election winners to be announced.
ASM saw a 53 percent increase in voter turnout in comparison to last year, with 4,305 total completed ballots. Last year, about 7 percent of the total student population voted in the elections.
The elections filled 29 student council seats and three SSFC seats for the 2016-17 school year.
