[media-credit name=”Courtesy of UW Police Department” align=”alignleft” width=”251″][/media-credit]A $700 painting that was stolen from Union South two weeks ago has been recovered, University of Wisconsin Police Department spokesperson Marc Lovicott said.

Hildegard Neujahr, a 66-year old female, confessed to UWPD Monday night and was cited for misdemeanor theft, Lovicott said.

UWPD was able to identify the suspect last week through a variety of tips, Lovicott said. UWPD was able to make contact with the suspect Monday night at which point she confessed, he said.

According to a UWPD statement, Neujahr took the painting to show her interior designer for color ideas in her home. Neujahr told officers she thought the artwork was done by a student and acceptable to take, the statement said. Neujahr was cooperative with authorities, the statement said.

The painting is currently in UWPD’s possession but will be returned to Union South shortly, Lovicott said. UWPD was still not able to offer details about the painting, he said.
