Police found marijuana, cocaine and a handgun in the Fitchburg apartment of a 19-year-old woman and her boyfriend after her Dec. 4 murder, according to a search warrant released Friday in the Dane County Circuit Court.

Murder suspect Thomas McCants, Lizzette Fountain’s 23-year-old boyfriend, said Fountain owned the drugs and weapon found in the apartment he shared with her, and they had argued about the drugs in the past.

McCants said he returned home from work Dec. 4 to find Fountain shot in the mouth, according to the warrant.

Police seized cocaine, marijuana, a Rohm .38-caliber handgun and ammunition from a safe in the apartment.

McCants remains in custody after his indictment for cocaine and firearms charges. Fitchburg police chief Tom Blatter said in January that McCants is one of several suspects in the homicide.

“The two cases parallel and are woven together,” Blatter said. “We haven’t ruled out anyone yet.”

Fountain’s mother Marie has worked with city officials to put together a $5,000 reward fund for people with vital information who have not yet come forward.

“We would like to see the fund grow,” Marie said in January. “I think there is more than one person out there with the last piece of the puzzle.”

She said she is anxious for the fund to grow and for new information to come forward.

“I believe her soul won’t rest until she sees justice,” Marie said.

Fountain was working two jobs at the time of her death in order to pay her own way to Madison Area Technical College, where she would study police science to become a parole officer. She planned to eventually transfer to the University of Wisconsin.
