While there will be plenty of members from the 2015 University of Wisconsin football team’s roster headed for the NFL this season, three in particular got the opportunity to head to Indianapolis for the NFL Combine this weekend.
Quarterback Joel Stave, linebacker Joe Schobert and offensive lineman Tyler Marz were put to the test at Lucas Oil Stadium, as they performed a variety of athletic-based drills in front of NFL scouts.
While the combine itself has little to do with actually playing football, teams tend to put quite a bit of stock into a player’s performance on their given day to do so.
Here is how the three former Badgers managed to perform this weekend:
Joel Stave
- 40-yard dash: 4.8 seconds (eighth best among quarterbacks)
- Vertical jump: 33.5 inches (third best)
- Broad jump: 115 inches (sixth best)
- Three cone drill: 7.29 seconds (third best)
Stave put together a surprisingly impressive day among some quarterbacks that many believed the four-year starter would not be able to match up with athletically. Given his size for the position and impressive day at the combine, being selected on draft day has become a possibility for Stave despite his inconsistencies over the years.
Joe Schobert
- 40-yard dash: 4.76 seconds (17th best among linebackers)
- Bench press: 22 reps (fifth best)
- Vertical jump: 33.5 inches (11th best)
- Broad jump: 111 inches (29th best)
- Three cone drill: 7.11 seconds (eighth best)
- 20-yard shuffle: 4.3 seconds (eighth best)
It was an impressive showing for the linebacker, as he showed great strength and respectable speed for the position. Not to mention Schobert’s athleticism was no mystery after this:

Regardless, the All-Big Ten performer did enough on the field this year to warrant consideration from any NFL team, as his production this past season should speak for itself.
Tyler Marz
- 40-yard dash: 5.54 seconds (43rd best among offensive linemen)
- Bench press: 19 reps (ninth best)
- Broad jump: 99 inches (top distance)
- 20-yard shuffle: 4.97 seconds (35th best)
While Marz may not boast the talent like some of the Badgers’ most recently drafted offensive linemen, the second-team All-Big Ten performer has a base skillset that will get him drafted, especially given UW’s rich history at the position.
