All 12 University of Wisconsin students studying abroad in Paris are confirmed to be safe following gun and bomb attacks in the city Friday evening, according to university officials.
Following multiple attacks on large venues in central Paris that caused at least 127 deaths, according to France 24, UW administration reached out to each student individually to ensure their safety, UW spokesperson John Lucas said in an email to The Badger Herald.
Lucas confirmed Friday night all 12 UW students in Paris are unharmed.
“In these situations, we encourage students to stay close to home, listen to local media reports and follow any security precautions advised by their local programs,” Lucas said.
UW’s International Academic Programs and International Internship Program offices did not respond immediately for comment. IAP’s emergency operator said to check in with the office Monday in order to keep the line open for families of students abroad.
