The Madison Police Department ended the first month of the year with a second large drug bust Monday.
According to a MPD incident report, Madison police joined forces with Dane County Narcotics Task Force, the Fitchburg Police, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation to uncover an investigation of high-level cocaine and marijuana trafficking.
The Task Force seized more than $440,000 worth of drugs, guns and cash from the suspects’ residencies.
The suspects, 33-year-old Santos Garcia-Partida and 24-year-old Luis Gerardo Hernandez-Hernandez, were arrested for possession and intent to deliver cocaine along with possession and intent to deliver marijuana.
The Task Force found 70 pounds of marijuana and two kilograms of cocaine as well as four guns and more than $20,000 cash.
Most drug busts do not recover kilograms of cocaine, MPD Captain Jason Freedman said. This bust, he said, is significant for Dane County and is in the top 5 to 10 percent of cases in terms of quantity of drugs recovered.
The cases are currently being reviewed by the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin and the suspects could be tried in federal court.
