The Madison Fire Department responded to a car fire in the 500 block of South Park Street early Saturday afternoon.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find the car on fire in a parking lot off Park Street, and were able to extinguish it quickly, Lieutenant Mahlon Mitchell, Engine 4, said.
The fire started in the engine compartment of the vehicle although the cause of the fire is unknown, Mitchell said.
The car’s occupants were able to exit the vehicle without injury.
Park Street traffic was unaffected by the fire, but police shut down a side street next to the parking lot.
