Police arrested a man early Saturday morning as he allegedly tried to burglarize a house on the 200 block of West Gilman Street.
According to a Madison Police Department incident report, 33-year-old Madison native Xavier D. Garner was arrested under charges of attempted burglary, false imprisonment, possession of burglarious tools, resisting/obstructing an officer, disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property.
A resident of the home reported the incident at approximately 3:05 a.m., the report said.
The resident provided a description of the suspect to Madison police and alerted roommates of the intrusion via instant messaging. Residents were able to secure themselves in their bedrooms while awaiting police action, the report said.
Upon entry, officers located the suspect in a vacant bedroom toward the back of the house, forced their way into the room and confronted Garner who initially resisted arrest, the report said.
