The U.S. government has revoked an updated total of 27 visas at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, including 15 current international students and 12 recent alumni, according to an email from Assistant Vice Chancellor John Lucas sent Monday afternoon.
This is an increase from the 26 revocations last reported Thursday, April 10.
The 12 alumni were working not necessarily on campus but remained connected to the university through UW-Madison immigration records, including Optional Practical Training or OPT STEM Extension programs, according to Lucas.
OPT programs allow international students on F-1 visas to work temporarily in the U.S. in a field that is related to their area of study.
There have been 16 visa terminations at other Universities of Wisconsin institutions, including 13 at UW-Milwaukee.
As of Monday afternoon, 1,010 student visas have been revoked across the country.
For additional information, students and staff can consult campus resources, UW-Madison’s Federal Relations website and the International Student Services page with resources on immigration issues.
