After 13 years as University of Wisconsin’s Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, Darrell Bazzell is taking a similar position at University of Texas- Austin.
Bazzell will leave UW March 6 to begin his new position as University of Texas’ senior vice president and chief financial officer, according to a UW statement.
In the statement, Bazzell said it was time for him to assess his future goals, and considered the offer from University of Texas-Austin a new opportunity.
Bazzell served in Wisconsin state government for 31 years and graduated from UW in 1984, earning a degree in sociology, according to the statement.
Before coming to UW, Bazzell served as the secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, in addition to previously filling other various positions at the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection and the departments of Administration and Health and Social Services.
Bazzell has also been involved in numerous community service and professional organizations in Wisconsin, such as serving as the president of Boys and Girls Club and Urban League of Greater Madison.
“I am deeply appreciative of Darrell’s numerous contributions and wise counsel during my time as chancellor,” Chancellor Rebecca Blank said in the statement. “He is a consummate professional who has been an important player in all aspects of life at the university.”
