University of Wisconsin wide receiver Ernest Mason was arrested Thursday evening outside of The Regent apartment complex after getting into a fight with the same woman he was accused of assaulting in December.
According to the police report, Mason and his girlfriend began to argue Thursday night when Mason grabbed her cell phone and smashed it. The argument continued outside the apartment when the woman fell to the ground, hitting her head.
Mason was charged with battery, intimidating a victim, disorderly conduct and bail-jumping for the incident Thursday. All are misdemeanor charges.
Mason and his girlfriend had engaged in another fight Dec. 2 where he allegedly assaulted her, locked her in a trash room and then threatened to hurt her if she called police.
After the first incident, Mason was ordered to have no contact with his girlfriend and was suspended due to the student-athlete discipline policy.
Mason appealed the suspension, however, and was reinstated and allowed to practice and play in the Music City Bowl.
Mason will appear in court April 29 for a pre-trial conference and is scheduled to appear in court regarding the first incident in about a month.
UW officials announced Friday that Mason was suspended under the student-athlete discipline policy. He can appeal the decision, however.
Mason caught one pass for 19 yards and averaged 15.3 yards per kickoff return in his first season as a Badger.
Mason’s arrest comes just days after UW basketball player Maurice “Boo” Wade was charged Monday with bail-jumping for contacting the woman he is accused of choking in February. Wade was ordered by the court to have no contact with his 19-year-old ex-girlfriend and if convicted he could face up to nine months in prison and a $10,000 fine.
