The University of Wisconsin’s annual Winter Carnival, hosted by the Wisconsin Union on Memorial Union Terrace is returning this Feb. 7 through Feb. 10.
This long-established event has four days of events planned. Unfortunately, due to the warmer weather in Madison, all of the ice events have been canceled. But don’t fret — there are still plenty of other fun activities to take part in. Grab a friend or come solo to Memorial Union and have some fun!
Kicking off the first day of events this Wednesday, stop by Der Rathskeller dressed in your best flannel for $1 cheese curds! On Friday, stop by the terrace to grab a picture with the iconic Lady Liberty.

In the mood for a formal dance event? If yes, then join the Snow Ball with Hoofer Sailing Club from 7–10 p.m. Friday. Looking for a more casual indoor activity to stay warm? Head on over to the Sunset Lounge and play in the Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games Tournament.
If you’re feeling crafty and in need of Friday evening plans, may I suggest DIY Luminary making at the Union?
On the last day of the carnival, grab some props to do an adorable photoshoot at the Winter Photo Booth with Mini Horses! Stick around afterwards for the free Maple Taffy in the Snow event, a popular Canadian tradition.

If you happen to have family visiting you, what better way to spend time with them then at the Family Fun in Alumni Park event! Come see the special guest appearance by Bucky Badger, enjoy music from DJ Mike Carlson and grab some hot cocoa or apple cider!
If you are looking for another fun Valentine’s idea — (why would you after reading our Valentine’s Day article?) — participate in the Valentime to be Valenkind card-making and hot chocolate event in Der Rathskeller!
In the mood for a mystery? Be on the lookout for the Secret Agent Scavenger Hunt hosted in the National Pan-Hellenic Council room of Memorial Union, from noon to 2 p.m.
Don’t let the melted ice stop you from taking advantage of all the fun events still planned for this week!
