Hello Badger Herald readers, and welcome to the Arts and Entertainment’s online blog, “The Beat Goes On.” In addition to the content published in the arts section every morning, this online publication will provide you with more information about the artsy and entertaining events happening around Madison throughout the school year.
However, before I get too far ahead, let me introduce myself. My name is Bess Donoghue, and I will be this year’s, and hopefully more to follow, blog editor. I joined the Arts and Entertainment section of the Badger Herald my Freshman year, and will be starting my position as a staff writer this fall. Writing for the paper has been a very worthwhile experience, I have been blessed with so many opportunities, including phone interviews with entertainers such as Jon Lajoie and Colbie Caillat, along with local performers in Madison.
I was born and raised in the Chicago suburbs which means I am a Cubs fan. I am currently a junior triple majoring in journalism, communications arts, and english, with aspirations to serve as a film critic in the future.
In regards to the “The Beat Goes On” this year, some design and content plans for the blog are in the works, and over the next couple of weeks, you will see some excellent renovations. I have one primary goal for the publication: to keep you, the students of UW-Madison, informed of the arts at a local and national level.
In particular, I want this blog to become a resource to you when you are making plans for not only the weekend, but weekdays too. We will not be only provide reviews of albums, recaps of shows, and features of events, but also previews of what is happening at a daily level. I hope we can answer questions such as, “What’s good on TV this week?” or “What is WUD Film scheduling in the Marquee this weekend?”
In the end, this blog is heading a new, different, but exciting direction. I am very excited for what we have in store for you, and I hope you’ll follow us often. Stay tuned for more!
