In this week’s
episode, the residents were put to a test when the attending doctors decided to
party at Joe’s (Steven Bailey) bar in honor of Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick
Dempsey) receiving a grant to help him with his Alzheimer’s research. However,
as smart as the attendings may be, they are all stumped upon arriving to Joe’s
to find that Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) will be their bartender for the night.
As the doctors slowly
leave for the night, Derek remains at the bar to make sure Cristina is fine
while Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) gets caught in surgery. When Hunt arrives at
the bar later to see Cristina giving a customer a lap dance, he carries her
home and remains with her for the night as she vomits into the toilet. Leaving
Cristina alone isn’t really working anymore and while he commits to standing by
her side as she emotionally struggles, it may be time Owen to intervene a bit
more in Cristina’s life.
Dr. Callie Torres
(Sara Ramirez) is starting to feel lonely in the absence of Dr. Arizona Robbins
(Jessica Capshaw) and turns to Dr. Mark Sloan (Eric Dance) for emotional
support. After many seasons of these two being friends with benefits, maybe their
relationship will be taken to a new level.
Dr. Lexie Grey
(Chyler Leigh) notices that Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) is having night
terrors due to emotional stress that is increased when two brothers arrive at
the hospital after trying to outrun a train. As the night a progress, Lexie
continues to offer her help and although Jackson seems to recover, it may not
be permanent.
Meanwhile, Dr. April
Kepner (Sarah Drew) struggles to help two teenagers who have super glued their
arms together as to avoid separation. As she tries to discover what will break
them apart, she finds Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) in a drunken state
from partying, probably the most drunk we have ever seen her on the show. In
her drunken state, the two doctors share a special moment, and Bailey explains
the remedy for April’s patient. When Bailey wakes up in the morning, she forces
April to vow that they will never discuss what happened the previous night.
Finally, Dr. Meredith
Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) struggle under Dr.
Phil Stark’s (Peter MacNicol) service, the new head of pediatric surgery, when
one of his patients suffer severe pain in his abdomen. While Dr. Stark insists
the young boy is suffering from gas, the two residents perform extra tests and
discover the boy’s situation requires immediate surgery.
While Meredith and
Alex attempt many numerous times to reach Stark via his phone and pager, they
are ignored and decide to perform the surgery themselves. Although they save
the patient, they are not saved from the yelling of Stark. However, while Stark
continues his rant, Meredith and Alex catch the Chief of Surgery, Richard
Webber’s (James Pickens Jr.) eyes outside the window, signaling to them they
made the right decision. Hopefully it also means Webber will be getting rid of
this new doctor.
