“Cosmic Love” – Florence + The Machine
This was love at first listen. The combination of Florence Welch’s soaring vocals and sweetly strummed harp trills along with the foot-stomping guitar and drums create a heavenly jam that’ll have you wishing you could live your life in slow motion with this as the ever-present melody.
“Fader” – The Temper Trap
“And I pledge myself allegiance to a better night sleep at home.” That line always gets stuck in my head. And isn’t it the truth? You always get a better night sleep at home, in the bed you grew up in surrounded by artifacts from your childhood. Listen to this and you’ll be jumping on top of that bed playing air guitar letting your head sway from side-to-side.
“Whole Wide World” – Wreckless Eric
Makes me want to jump back to the late 70’s when a punk-rocker would travel from to the tropical islands to find where the girl of his dreams is hiding.
“Ragged Wood” – Fleet Foxes
Craving summer? Picture this: You’re in a field surrounded by daisies, barefoot, running through the tall grass letting the wind tease your hair as the sun rays coax your freckles to come out of hiding. Whatever your summertime fantasy may be, this song takes you there.
“Beach Baby” – Bon Iver
No playlist is complete without some Bon Iver. It’s spectacularly raw and soft at the same time, like a hushed lullaby for your stressed soul.
“Moon River” Audrey Hepburn – To my future husband: this is the song I’ll be walking down the aisle to.
“Say Yes” – Elliott Smith
Vintage Elliott Smith always has my malleable heart melting.
“Laid” – Matt Nathanson
Go back to high school for three minutes when it was naughty to play this song above a whisper when your parents were home, pretty soon you’ll be hitting the high notes with Matt all over again.
“Diva” – Beyonc?
Get your swag on and tap into your inner Sasha Fierce. I’ll admit it; I walk down Park Street with my held high and an added sass when Beyonc?’s fearsome voice assures me I can be a diva, too.
“Don’t Worry Baby” – The Beach Boys
I’m not ashamed to say I discovered this song after watching “Never Been Kissed” when I was 9, and I have yet to grow tired of it. I’m afraid this is going to be an eternal love affair with a soothing song from some classic California boys.
