The Wisconsin men’s basketball team received a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament from the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee for the second time in school history Sunday and will play in the West region.

Wisconsin (26-7) will face off with No. 15 seed American University (20-12) Thursday, March 20 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Thursday will mark the first-ever meeting between the Badgers and the Eagles.

Arizona is the No. 1 seed in the Western Region while No. 3 seed Creighton and No 4 seed San Diego State round out the top four in the West.

If Wisconsin beats American in the second round it will face the winner of No. 7 seed Oregon and No. 10 seed BYU Saturday in Milwaukee.

Wisconsin is one of six Big Ten teams to be selected to the NCAA Tournament and is tied with Michigan as the highest seed in the conference. No. 11 seed Nebraska is the only other Big Ten school in the West Region and could potentially play Wisconsin in the Sweet 16.

Should the Badgers win their first two games — both in Milwaukee — they would play in Anaheim, Calif. March  27-30 for the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight rounds.
