The Wisconsin women’s track and field team made some noise at the Boise State Invitational recently, winning five events.
The Badgers were led by sophomore Erica Schoeller and freshman Shuntia Lucas, each of whom took two events.
Schoeller, a Cross Plains, Wis. native, won the 400 meters in a personal best of 54.9 seconds. Her time ranks sixth on the UW’s all-time list. Senior Kym Hubing finished second in the 400, crossing in a near-personal best of 56.61 seconds.
Schoeller continued her success in the long jump, taking the event by jumping 18-10 3/4. Junior Christina Taylor was third at 18-3.
Lucas set personal bests in winning both the 100 and 200 meters. She claimed the shorter race in 11.94 and the 200 in 24.47 seconds. Freshman Venus Washington was the second UW finisher in both races, coming in fifth in the 100 meters (12.23) and sixth in the 200 meters (25.58). Washington also finished fourth in the long jump at 18-1.
Senior Angie Kolanko was also an event winner for the Badgers, taking the high jump with a personal best of 5-8 3/4. Her mark also improved her regional qualifying mark.
Junior Courtney Bauer improved her own UW record in the hammer for the second straight meet. Bauer finished sixth at 166-7 to improve her own school record by almost two feet.
Wisconsin also picked up three second-place finishes at the meet. The Badgers were second in the 4×100-meter relay in 46.85 and second in the 4×400-meter relay in 3:55.31.
Redshirt freshman ‘A Havahla Haynes was second in the 1500 meters in 4:46.93. Junior Heidi Lane finished third at 4:49.56 and sophomore Tara Halls was sixth in 4:52.74.
In the field events, sophomore Lauren Lasseter tied for third in the pole vault at 10-11 3/4 while Erin Brueggeman and Andrea Lopez tied for fifth at 10-6.
Sophomore Jamae Gjermo finished sixth in the shot put at 45-0 1/4 while Bauer was seventh at 44-11 3/4. Senior Yael Peled finished sixth in the triple jump at 34-7 3/4.
The Badgers resume their outdoor season on April 16-18 with three meets in southern California.
