Three Wisconsin volleyball players were selected to all-conference teams Monday.
Opposite hitter Jill Odenthal headlined the trio, earning All-Big Ten status for the first time. The 6-foot junior from Geneva, Ill., averaged 3.60 kills per game for UW in 2003, while hitting a team best .305. She also landed an average of 0.39 aces per game with her jump serve. She was picked to the Badger Invitational and InnTowner Invitational All-Tournament teams.
Co-captain Morgan Shields was named Honorable Mention after leading the conference in assists per game at 13.60. The senior setter was a third-team All-American in 2002 and holds the Wisconsin record for assists in a Big Ten season with 1,109.
Also drawing accolades was middle blocker Amy Bladow, who was selected to the All-Freshman Team. Bladow’s 79 blocks were second best on the team this season. After beginning the season as a backup, she started 25 matches for UW, averaging 1.74 kills per game.
Minnesota’s Cassie Busse was named Player of the Year, while the Coach of the Year was a split decision. The league coaches selected Illinois’ Don Hardin, while the media chose Hardin and Russ Rose of Penn State as Co-Coaches of the Year.
