Bell out for season

The Wisconsin secondary will be without junior defensive back Brett Bell for the remainder of the 2003 season due to a shoulder injury, head coach Barry Alvarez announced. Bell had started the first three games of the season at cornerback, recording a total of 12 tackles.

The Wheaton, Ill., native has earned two letters for the Badgers, playing in 24 of Wisconsin’s 26 games in his first two seasons, on special teams and the defensive backfield. Last year he made starts against UNLV and Ohio State at free safety. Taking his place at cornerback will likely be sophomore Levonne Rowan.

The Wisconsin football team will play a home-and-home series with the Arizona State Sun Devils in 2010 and 2012, according to Athletic Director designee and head football Coach Barry Alvarez.

The Sun Devils will play in Madison Sept. 18, 2010, and the Badgers will travel to Tempe for a game Sept. 15, 2012.

“Our conference has a long tradition of playing schools from the Pacific-10 because of a long association with the Rose Bowl,” Alvarez said. His teams have played UCLA and Stanford in Pasadena, Calif.

“Arizona State has one of the stronger football traditions in the west, and our fans will certainly enjoy these match-ups with a terrific team from another part of the country.”

Arizona State is 3-1 this season and ranked 24th nationally by ESPN/USA Today.

Arizona State has won the only two previous meetings between the schools (42-16 in 1967 and 55-7 in 1968). UW is 15-21-1 all-time vs. schools currently in the Pacific-10 Conference. The Badgers’ last game against a team from the Pacific-10 was a 31-10 win over Arizona in 2002.
