Jon Szczepanski and Nick Pasquarello, a volunteer assistant coach for the Wisconsin women’s soccer team last season, will join head coach Jeff Rohrman as assistants with the Badger men’s soccer program.
“I am very excited to have Jon and Nick join our program,” Rohrman said. “They are both quality individuals who bring a wealth of experience, and the energy and enthusiasm to really do a great job for us.”
Pasquarello, who will serve as the Badgers’ goalkeeper specialist, played at Wisconsin from 1991-1994, starting in net his senior season as the team earned a 14-6-0 overall record and berth to the NCAA Championship. He was named the team’s William Reddan Award recipient in 1994, and his 14 victories that year rank third on UW’s single-season list.
Pasquarello graduated from Wisconsin in 1994 with a bachelor?s degree in Communication Arts. He will finish his duties with the UW women?s team, currently on a 12-day international trip to Europe, and join the men’s program June 10.
Szczepanski, who comes to Wisconsin after one year as an assistant at Yale, has coached soccer in the Milwaukee area since 1989 when he served as head coach of the Whitefish Bay-Dominican boys junior varsity team.
“I’m excited about coming home,” said Szczepanski, a Milwaukee native. “And I’m excited about this opportunity to coach with coach Rohrman. I’m really excited to return home to Wisconsin and help run a program in the Big Ten.”
Szczepanski also headed the Milwaukee Lutheran boys varsity team for nine years before joining Yale and was an assistant for the Milwaukee Rampage, a professional A-League team, from 1997-98. Additionally, Szczepanski served as the director of coaching for the Brookfield Soccer Association from 1991-94 and was head coach of the Brookfield Express club team from 1990-95.
Szczepanski played collegiate soccer at UW-Milwaukee from 1985-1988 before competing professionally with the Milwaukee Rampage and Chicago Power. He helped lead the Rampage to a national championship in 1997 and ranks as the team’s all-time assist leader.
Szczepanski will join the Badger coaching staff in July.
