Wisconsin split a pair of softball games at the Frost Classic, defeating Baylor 2-1 before falling 6-0 to Arkansas. Junior pitcher Andrea Kirchberg struck out nine batters in the victory, her sixth of the season, as the Badgers (8-5 overall) rallied with runs in the fifth and sixth innings to halt Baylor’s (23-3) 13-game winning streak.
Despite giving up five hits and four errors, the Badgers were able to hold Baylor to just a single run, which the Lady Bears earned with an RBI single in the top of the third inning. Two BU errors in the bottom of the fifth led to Wisconsin’s first run as junior Erin Barnharst beat a throw at the plate. Junior Nicki Starry, who went 2-for-3 in the game, led off the bottom of the sixth with a double to left center. Junior Mandy Liles came in to pinch run for Starry, and junior Anna Jones brought her home with a single to center for the game-winner.
Arkansas (15-6) dominated the Badgers from the opening inning, with the Razorbacks scoring their first two batters with four hits in the top of the first. Sophomore pitcher Heather Schlichtman struck out seven Badgers with no walks and took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. Arkansas notched nine hits and forced four UW errors in the contest.
