As I sat enjoying the first half of the Badger game, pondering what the atmosphere would be like against
Instead of hot and humid
With this at stake, I would like to issue a call to arms. This call is not only relayed to students, season ticket holders and all other Badger faithfuls, but this call goes directly out to the football team and the athletic department.
In my four years here on campus, not once have I heard talks of a pep rally — neither for football nor for basketball. It surprises me that with all of the big games we host here on campus, the teams seem disinterested in drumming up a little extra faith. Instead, people simply complain the student sections do not fill up on time and that we seem to care more about drinking than about the game.
So let’s do something about it this weekend. It is at this pivotal moment that the team needs to be reminded of how much the fans believe in them, and we need to be reminded how dedicated our players are. With the two biggest games of our season rapidly approaching, I say throw all of the fans into the Kohl Center or Camp Randall on Friday night, and let’s get fired up for this weekend! Imagine what the response, both by players and fans, would be if a Wisconsin living legend (and there is no lack of them) was to deliver a great speech the night before the game.
Every Saturday I watch highlights from countless other schools that feature inspirational pep rallies from the previous night. I can only ponder one thing — why not do that here? Why not with a team that is consistently a football powerhouse in a city that bleeds Cardinal and White on the eve of our biggest battle? Let us reach for the roses. And let that reach starts this weekend.
