Bob Woodward was having a fairly good month up until now. After having been relatively quiet for several years, Woodward was thrust back into the spotlight for his reporting on the sequester. When President Barack Obama tried to shift the blame onto congressional Republicans, Woodward reported the idea of the sequester originated in the White House. When Woodward informed the White House he was prepared to report the White House was “moving the goal posts,” he claimed the White House threatened him.
Not bad for a reporter who’s nearing 70 years old.
However, Politico recently published the actual email exchange between Woodward and Obama aide Gene Sperling. The verdict? Woodward may have overacted a bit. The email, it turns out, was fairly cordial. Chuck Todd, NBC News political director, told Politico, “I get emails like this almost every hour, whether it’s from the White House or Capitol Hill.”
For making much ado about nothing, Bob Woodward is our loser of the week.
