Welcome back to "That Just Ain't Right." I want to encourage all of you to make your thoughts known at the online feed offered at the end of each article published on the Friday online edition of The Badger Herald. This feedback line is available all weekend. Join the conversation! Agree or disagree, it's all about beginning dialogues. OK, I did the plug! Now let's move on to business…
The way the political system in this country has been managed the last 35 years has been, at best, loose. But I have always believed that you have no right to complain unless you can offer a positive alternative path. So on behalf of all the seditionists who have ever lived, I will offer my solution to the continuing decline of the American political system as we know it. So you are thinking to yourself, "This guy does not have a clue!"
Read on, you may or may not be surprised! Let us assume for a moment that you are unhappy with the "system." What can you do?
You can either:
1. Conform
2. Withdraw
3. Disagree
4. Offer a new solution
So here is my own personal solution: I will offer myself up as the sacrificial lamb on behalf of the Representative Party of the United States and hereby announce my candidacy for president of the United States.
Here is the platform of the new "Representative Party of the United States."
Declaration of Liberation and Mission Statement for The Representative Party of the United States. Feb. 28, 2007. We, the free people of the Union, in open rebellion hereby proclaim…
The creation of The Representative Party. Freeing all peoples of the United States of America from the unjust tyranny of a republic that has lost sight of the original vision that our founding fathers presented to the colonies in 1778.
The Representative Party is forthwith dedicated to the following propositions:
We believe in common sense and the realization that we must endeavourer to become responsible caretakers of this planet and all of its inhabitants, great and small.
We believe that peace is better than war.
We believe that until we are capable of adequately caring for our own citizens, we possess little credibility or authority to suggest, much less attempt, to dictate world policy.
We believe in the fundamental goodness of humanity to overcome greed, waste, and the impropriety of continuing to consume more than we produce.
We believe in tolerance, respect, understanding, cooperation, compromise, compassion, strength, fortitude and the ability to consider the multitude of possible answers to the problems facing us before deciding to put our needs above those of others.
We believe in fair play, informed and concerned citizens, an unencumbered free press and the right to challenge the manner in which our current political system has been managed.
We believe in our inalienable right to resist an unjust and bankrupt government and exert our authority to constrain said authority from continuing to corrupt America's investments and a spirit of ethical leadership in the world.
We believe the largest responsibility placed on all great and just powers is an intolerance of corruption while simultaneously being called upon to exhibit the highest levels of benevolence in world affairs. We must reject the policies of imposition and once again must become the world's great mediator, a unifying force in the world — not a divisive one.
We understand mistakes are made. Mistakes are the inevitable result of the decision-making process. However, the obligation of a responsible authority is to learn from mistakes and possess the ability to honestly acknowledge them. In other words, we will not be afraid to acknowledge and apologize for mistakes, but accept the burden and ultimate responsibility of learning from them, in the interest of a greater good.
We know that life was not meant to be a burden but rather an opportunity to individually and communally respect and share the joys of life, spread the fruits of our blessings to all those we touch and endeavor to uplift the lives of all peoples.
The propositions represented herein codify our authority, obligation, and duty to immediately respond to the indefensible positions of the current political reality. These propositions also serve as an urgent nationwide call to action to all those who hold these universal truths in their hearts.
These beliefs represent the cornerstones and closely held values of The Representative Party of the United States of America, dedicated to the freedom of all peoples and justice for the very least among us, least we are so judged.
So this is the manner that I propose we all choose to confront the "system." So tell me what you think folks, because I'm thinking that anything else, "Just Ain't Right!"
We can change the political landscape, but only if we all choose to.
