UW student hit by drunk driver on West Johnson

A 19-year-old University of Wisconsin student was attempting to cross West Johnson Street early Saturday morning when she was struck by a vehicle.

According to a Madison Police Department incident report, the driver, 22-year-old Emily Schumacher, admitted to drinking and officers administered field sobriety tests.

Police arrested Schumacher for operating a motor while intoxicated causing injury.

Child struck by car on East Washington Avenue

The victim reportedly suffered significant injuries as a result of the crash and was taken to a local emergency room.

The intersection of West Johnson Street and North Frances Street was closed for an hour after the incident, but has since been opened.
