Early Friday morning at 4 a.m., a 51-year old homeless man was attacked outside the Wisconsin Veterans Museum, according to a Madison Police Department incident report.

According to the report, the homeless man — who was sleeping outside the Veterans Museum located at the intersection of State Street and West Mifflin Street — was attacked and knocked unconscious.

The suspect, a black male around 160 pounds, appeared to be in his 20s and was wearing dark clothing. He had allegedly attacked others, to a lesser extent, who were sleeping around him.

The homeless man suffered significant head injuries including bleeding in his skull, a fractured orbital bone and was taken to the hospital. The attacker asked the man to empty his pockets, which he refused to do. The homeless man claims to have been punched around 20 times.

Police have not identified the attacker and the homeless man remains in the hospital recovering from injuries.
