Women, Well-being, Wisconsin and the World requested funding from the Associated Students of Madison for a summit at the meeting Wednesday.

The requested funding would go toward the Wisconsin and the World 2016 Summit on Women, Gender and Well-Being. The summit will take place April 15 and 16 at the Pyle Center.

Women, Well-being, Wisconsin and the World, also known as the 4W Initiative, seeks to “make life better for women, and the world better for all,” Lori DiPrete Brown, 4W director, said.

DiPrete Brown presented several projects the 4W Initiative has accomplished, and said to continue its work, it proposed the plan to fund the 2016 summit.

Some of these projects DiPrete Brown mentioned included initiatives to end human sex trafficking, establishing education and research programs on financial equality in relationships and international women’s health program.

Known for its “holistic approach,” 4W Initiative is designed to bring together national and international leaders, building connections to address major challenges surrounding women and well-being, DiPrete Brown said.

Representatives from the School of Human Ecology, the Global Health Institute and the Department of Gender and Women’s Studies created University of Wisconsin’s 4W Initiative.

In addition to 4W Initiative’s presentation, several committee chairs addressed ASM about current plans for their committees. Members also discussed upcoming ASM elections and meetings.

ASM will make a decision on funding for 4W Initiative summit at a later meeting. Its next meeting is Feb. 17.
