A Madison man surrendered himself to police after having allegedly defrauded college students by selling fake parking permits for a Meriter Hospital lot.

According to a Madison Police Department incident report, the man, 21-year-old Jamil Abdel-Hamid, sold hundreds of dollars worth of fake passes to students through Craigslist.

The hospital notified police when people with fake passes began parking on the parking ramp.

The majority of the victims were college students who paid $70 a month for a spot.

According to the report, the rip-off parking passes were identifiable because of their small print and often incorrect numbers.

The suspect was booked and released on tentative fraud charges.
