Body recovered from Lake Mendota identified

Man jumped from sailboat, went missing Saturday night
Body+recovered+from+Lake+Mendota+identified

A man’s body was found and identified Monday as the man who went missing after jumping from a sailboat on Lake Mendota Saturday evening.

The body was identified Thursday as Edgewood College student Mohammad “Hamood” Bagabir, age 22.

Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney told reporters Monday morning the body was found around 10 a.m.

Mahoney said the body was found about three-fourths of a mile from Memorial Union and under approximately 60 feet of water.

MFD, UW Lifesaving and Dane County Sheriff Deputies first received a call about a possible drowning victim around 6 p.m. Saturday, according to a statement from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.
