A Madison man was sentenced to 10 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to charges of a second-degree sexual assault near campus.

Marcus Boone, 28, was charged with second-degree sexual assault, a class C felony, after pleading guilty to the assault count on February 2. He was initially arrested and charged for first-degree sexual assault, a class B felony, but the charge was dismissed.

Boone sexually assaulted a 21-year-old woman around 2:40 a.m. in Fahrenbrook Court, after following her along S. Park Street in August.

Police detectives were able to work undercover to identify Boone after the victim gave a detailed description of the assault. Several citizens provided helpful leads and identified Boone as the person in video surveillance footage of the parking lot.
