Downtown intersection opened again after suspicious item reported

Intersection reopens after item declared harmless

The intersection of Fairchild Street and West Washington Avenue closed briefly this afternoon after a pedestrian reported a suspicious item to Madison police.

MPD spokesperson Joel DeSpain said the Dane County bomb squad investigated the cylindrical-shaped object and reported it to be safe.

“Nothing was dangerous,” DeSpain said. “The scene is now clear and back to normal. Most likely it was something that had been dropped off by a vehicle.”
