Three dead after stabbing on East Washington

A 30-year-old man was shot by a police officer Friday after forcing entry into a neighbor’s home on East Washington Avenue and stabbing three people.
Two of the victims were killed: a 50-year-old Madison woman was found dead in her home and her 30-year-old daughter later passed away at a hospital, according to a statement from the Madison Police Department.
The 20-year-old son and brother to the victims is in stable condition and was able to escape to seek help. A four-year-old child was found uninjured in the apartment.
When police officers entered the scene, they came across an active scene of a knife-wielding suspect. The suspect was shot by an officer and transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
MPD’s preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had previously made threats to the neighbors and suffered from mental health issues, although the motive for the violence is still under investigation.
The Department of Criminal Investigation has reported that the suspect who was shot by officers died at the hospital, and there is no continued threat.
