The 100 block of King Street will be close to traffic on Friday for construction in the area.

A statement from the Madison Traffic Engineering division said the city is working with RG Huston to completely reconstruct the 100 block of King Street and the 100 block of East Main Street.

The release said the route of East Main Street to South Pickney Street will stay open over the weekend, but will close Monday and remain closed until the project is complete. The project is expected to be finished by mid-June, the statement said.

During the construction, the 100 block of South Pickney Street will accommodate two-way traffic so onstreet parking can be sustained.

Madison’s Central Business Improvement District has also issued a Downtown Get Around Guide to assist drivers in the commute to areas surrounding these closed-off blocks.

Commuters will be able to access the Tenney Parking ramp from Webster Street. All local businesses will remain open during the reconstruction with pedestrian access.
