UW banners stolen from Bascom Hill

The University of Wisconsin campus experienced a minor theft, the second in recent weeks, on Bascom Hill Thursday.

UW Police Department spokesperson Marc Lovicott said two UW banners were reported stolen from a campus building at 1100 Bascom Mall around 1:30 p.m.

Lovicott said the case is under investigation.

The incident is the second theft reported at the same building in the past several weeks. A smartphone was also reported stolen on Oct. 17, but Lovicott said the department does not believe the two thefts are related.

Lovicott said nothing was unusual about Thursday’s theft nor did it follow any previous trends.

Thefts on campus are the number one thing UWPD deals with, Lovicott said. He added officers involved with the case do not believe the theft is different from others that have occurred.
