The victim said his attackers punched him in the face, causing him to fall, and held him on the ground using their feet while the others took his wallet, iPod and cell phone.

The victim described his attackers as older African-American teenagers wearing dark clothing. He added at least two had backpacks and a few had braids in their hair.

MPD spokesperson Joel DeSpain said though he has not seen incidents during the day like this recently, any mugging is a cause for alarm.

“We are actively working to indentify those involved,” DeSpain said.

Stolen Vehicle Update

Police located and arrested the suspect believed to have stolen a truck from a Madison Copp’s parking lot after running through the store and yelling at people to get down earlier this week.

Alex Cook, 19, was found and detained by Scott County, Iowa police officers after being spotted with a second car that was reported stolen from Dane County Wednesday evening.

Cook was found with an accomplice, Jacob Arndt, 26, of Madison, who was also taken into custody and is being interrogated by the Dane County Sheriff’s office for connections with the second car theft.

“The Madison Police Department, the Dane County Sheriff’s Department and the Verona Police Department continue to work in concert regarding possible crimes committed by this suspect,” DeSpain said in an email to The Badger Herald.

STOUGHTON ROAD

Battery

A 16-year-old Madison girl was the victim of bullying on a Madison Metro bus Wednesday, according to an MPD report.

The victim said another teen, a 15-year-old Madison boy whom she knew, was teasing her about a skin condition he believed she had. She told him to stop, and the boy punched her in the face, causing her nose to bleed, the report said.

DeSpain said the girl did the right thing, and told a responsible adult after the incident. He added it was difficult for the girl to avoid the situation.

“She was sort of a captive in this situation, [the suspect] came on the bus and sat next to her,” DeSpain said.

The suspect was arrested on charges of battery and disorderly conduct, the report added.

MARQUETTE STREET

Weapons Violation

Two Madison teens were arrested in relation to gang activity Wednesday afternoon after police received reports of a gathering that could potentially escalate into a fight.

MPD’s Crime Prevention and Gang Unit arrived on the scene after getting a call about a group of teens that appeared to be preparing to fight. After police arrived and tried talking to the first suspect, Alexander Jefferson-Cooper, 17, of Madison, he passed his coat and backpack to the second suspect, Bryant Hunt-Hayes, also 17 and from Madison, the report said.

Police found a loaded gun and drugs inside Jefferson-Cooper’s backpack, and arrested both teens for carrying a concealed weapon and trespassing, the report said. Jefferson-Cooper admitted to being involved in a gang and said he was carrying the weapon because he was afraid someone wanted to kill him.
