Two University of Wisconsin scientists received prestigious national awards Thursday in Washington, D.C., for their medical research.
The Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers is the highest honor given by the U.S. government to scientists and engineers in the beginning of their independent careers.
UW genetics professor Ahna Skop and UW medicine professor Sterling Johnson received the award at the White House among 58 other young scientists and engineers who received the 2006 PECASE awards.
Eleven different federal and national agencies and departments nominate the researchers for the award.
The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs nominated Johnson, whose research focuses on brain disorders like Alzheimer’s disease.
