To celebrate Black History Month, which officially begins today, several student organizations have planned campus events.
Janine Ford, adviser of the Multicultural Student Center, said the organization’s plans include a poetry reading, a soul food session and a Black Jeopardy game. Dates and times are yet to be determined.
UW-Madison’s student-produced television program “Madison This Week” will air segments pertaining to black history every week this month. The program airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on cable channel four.
The UW Gospel Choir will honor the month with a mini-concert Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Pres House on Library Mall.
A Black History Program, put together by Marques Jackson of MCSC, will be held Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Union.
“[The program] will basically involve performances ranging from poetry, drummers, and also musical performances,” he said. “Basically it will be a full program that talks about different aspects of black culture.”
Movie director Spike Lee will speak as part of the Distinguished Lecture Series Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the Field House.
