The Badgers’ quest for a national championship became a little more realistic this weekend.
After defeating UW-Milwaukee and Michigan State in the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament, the Badgers earned themselves a spot in the Sweet 16 this week.
En route to preserving their season for at least one more week, the Badgers handled their two opponents with ease in front of the home crowds at the UW Field House. The Badgers swept both teams, downing UW-Milwaukee 30-19, 30-15. 30-27, and Michigan State 30-21, 30-22, 30-24.
“After [Friday’s] match I said we didn’t really play very well, and we’d be really focused against Michigan State — and we were,” UW head coach Pete Waite said. “I thought we played an excellent match.”
Now the Badgers will head to Palo Alto, Calif., where they will meet Texas A&M in the regional semifinal Friday.
